This course explores the biological and behavioral diversity among living nonhuman primates. We begin with some fundamentals of primate taxonomy, traits that distinguish primates from other mammals, primate social systems, and some theoretical aspects of primate behavior and ecology. We then spend the rest of the semester surveying the primate order. Each week we focus on a different group of primates and learn about their biology, behavior and ecology through lectures, videos, and assigned readings. In addition to our weekly taxonomic focus, we also explore various topics in primatology that are relevant to our taxonomic group for that week.
